FORT BRAGG, CA — The opening events of KelpFest! last weekend was the start of a four-week-long festival of science, art, film, and food to highlight the critical role kelp plays in the coastal ecosystem. Various hands-on art, science, food tastings, movies, and some scientific talks are scheduled on weekends through June 16.

Organized by the ocean literacy nonprofit group Above/Below, co-directed by Josie Iselin and Marianna Leuschel, and funded by The Nature Conservancy, the fest also includes participation from the Mendocino Art Center, Mendocino Film Festival, and the Noyo Center for Marine Science, among others.
